How to wear them? How to choose?
First jeans were manufactured for workers and gold diggers. They made a brilliant career because they were practical and very durable. However, they had to wait a long time for their 5 minutes of fame in the fashion world. This cut of trousers was first promoted by James Dean in the 1950s and this fact shifted it from the big screen to the streets. Men's jeans have gained popularity throughout decades and have become the favourite ones of hippies. Today, it's hard to imagine an offer of a random clothing retailer without jeans. Now, think of a person who doesn't wear jeans – there's no such person! This cut is no longer limited to casual and urban styles. It is more and more often used as a part of smart-elegant outfits, which are suitable not only to a so-called casual Friday.
Despite the fact that men's jeans are present all over, it's worth knowing a couple of rules regarding their selection. All the more that fashion designers create new colour versions and cuts. So how to wear them? What to pay attention to while choosing a pair? What do they go best with?
Jeans are usually used in typical everyday stylings where they become the most versatile. A perfect pair can have subtle stitchings and shades, but the trouser leg is also important. They should have a proper length and width. Slim men most often choose the slim-fit cut or even the skinny one. Others can wear wider jeans. In a pair with a zigzag pattern you can shorten the legs or roll them up.
Don't forget that jeans, which are by the way durable, are not indestructible. The noticeable traces of cuts, worning out, washed out colours make them look bad. The same goes when jeans seem dirty and their knees are worn out.
If it comes to colours, you are unlimited and can choose whatever you like. Feel free to try out sky blue, blue, navy blue and opposite - beige, grey or black. Almost all combinations are allowed. It's important to remember to make jeans matched to the rest of the styling. You can wear them casually with a T-shirt, a longsleeve, a jumper or an informal shirt, as well as with a sweatshirt. While choosing shoes, go for moccasins, trainers or other urban lace-ups with a thick white outsole.
It's far more difficult to create a smart-casual look with jeans. The styling can usually be boosted up by a casual blazer. In outfits with jeans you can use a model without a lining, but with patched pockets. As far as decorations are concerned, you have to try out colourful buttons, elbow patches, as well as checked and herringbone patterns. Also very popular are double-breasted cuts, which are more suitable to slim men. You should consider to pick good material – thick matte fabrics. Tweed and knitwear works best in winter. On the other hand, in summer put on a linen or cotton blazer.
Only classic men's jeans can be a match-up to smart-casual stylings. They need to have a straight leg, to be well-fitted and have a blue or navy blue colour. You should definitely avoid shades, stitchings and expressive decorations, such as inserts, contrasting buttons or visible seams. A crucial element of a smart-casual outfit is a belt. Don't go for slim ones with a small buckle and for thick ones. Under a blazer and to jeans you can wear a printed T-shirt, an expressive checked, striped, patterned model, a light jumper or a turtleneck. If you are to choose footwear, we suggest going for formal shoes, ankle boots and moccasins in warmer months.
Between autumn and winter jeans go best together with a jumper, a jacket and a colourful vest. You can choose exceptionally interesting stylings with a parka jacket or a colourful quilted jacket. Men's jeans with a straight trouser leg can be easily set with an elegant coat. Get ready to obtain nonchalance.
You may also like to wear jeans and a leather jacket together. It's a good idea not only for fans of grunge, in which a black jacket is often set with jeans and a checked shirt. Not less interesting seems combining a brown leather jacket with a T-shirt or a jumper and navy blue jeans.
For more experimenting you can allow yourself in typical sporty and street stylings. In this situation you can choose trendy men's jeans with stonewashings, shades or embroiderements, but from time to time you can exchange them for comfortable denim joggers. Characteristic ribbed trousers in a baggy version with lowered crotch look great with oversized sweatshirts, T-shirts or printed longsleeves, They combine nicely with colourful quilted jackets or popular bombers. They beautifully underline street shoes – sneakers, plimsolls or trainers with a colourful upper.
