Get the total look
A total look styling is an outfit which consists of elements in the same colour. It is usually black. However, in contemporary men's fashion, it's a way broader concept. A total look is still a styling in one colour, but within it, there are denim total looks, outfits with different shades of the same colour or bypassed total looks in which details or even larger elements in other colours contrast amazingly with each other.
Where and when the black total look works best?
Despite many advantages, blackness is certainly not the most versatile colour and it doesn't always work in men's fashion. It's recommended to avoid using it among smart casual stylings. The better choice for special events and occasions is surely a navy blue suit. However, if it comes to casual and streetwear fashion, black is best. It creates a chic look, visually slenders the silhouette and looks outstandingly when matched with colourful clothes, accessories and details.
The perfect black total look should be plain. The most desirable is deep blackness. Mixing textures and patterns works perfectly in such stylings. Black leather jackets and black jeans just hit the jackpot. Another decent styling is a streetwear oversize hoodie matched with denim joggers. Black men's cotton T-shirts with thicker joggers or baggy trousers. Such stylings may also be intriguingly complemented with quilted elements, faux leather inserts, stitchings or embossings.
Grey style – hoodies, sweatshirts and trousers
Grey colour is mainly associated with sporty stylings. It's versatile and practical. But, within it, there are a few colours worth noticing: grey, ashy grey, anthracite and graphite. They match with each other outstandingly in various stylings. Another decent idea is a styling in the shades of grey consisting of sweatshirts or hoodies and sweatpants, joggers or urban baggy trousers. It's really simple to juice a grey total look up and add it extra energy. Feel free to match grey trousers with a grey sweatshirt or hoodie with a large expressive overprint and voila.
Denim total look – a denim shirt or jacket and men's jeans
A monochrome styling is rather not a good idea in all-denim outfits. If you decide to wear denim fabric from head to toe, you should place a bet on different shades or even colours. You should not only match your style carefully but also wear clothes with previously learnt nonchalance. If jeans and a denim shirt are to create a decent look, try to tuck a shirt into the trousers. To cut even more slack, loosen the collar.
Denim outfits match nicely with blackness, but also with more expressive colours e.g. red. Such men's jeans and a denim shirt is a superb set that certainly stands out in the crowd.
Navy blue men's jeans, winter jackets and vests
People who prefer dark colours can decide freely on a navy blue total look. It works amazingly during the transitional period. The perfect choice for casual style.
A great effect can be obtained both by matching clothes in the same shade and in a different one. Navy blue men's jeans combined with a longsleeve or a navy blue short lightweight jacket is the best way to create the perfect casual look.
It's worth to combine navy blue stylings with a men's vest, hooded or not or with fancy patterns. This look can be excellently altered by navy blue and a camo sweatshirt. The checked pattern also works fantastic.
Break the total look
Neatly composed plain stylings can make a huge impression. To maintain this effect for a longer period of time - break the look. For such purpose, the most useful are contrasting details or accessories. Overprints with red elements, checked inserts, or patterned shirts – all of them provide a styling with exceptional look, depth of colour and additional energy.
Wearing contrasting shoes has been a very trendy method to break a styling for a few seasons. A black streetwear styling can be easily matched with white sneakers. Moreover, navy blue stylings are wonderfully complemented with red lace-up men's shoes with an ankle-high upper.
